S.two debuts new product family, announces ARRIRAW T-LINK™ Certification and premieres VTR replacement Digital Studio Recorder at NAB'08

In an expanded location in the Lower South Hall at the NAB Convention (Las Vegas 14th-17th April 2008) S.two showcased for the first time anywhere the S.two end-to-end tool set - responding to the growing requirement for 4K digital film production. The booth also featured a new HD444, 2K & 3K capable uncompressed portable recorder and previewed a revolutionary new product for real-time post production of raw Bayer Pattern Data originating with digital cinematography cameras. The Company additionally announced its recorders are first to earn the ARRIRAW T-LINK™ Certification and debuted a new VTR replacement DSR Digital Studio Recorder. A synopsis of each announcement is provided below - Full releases are available at:http://www.virtualpressoffice.com/media/presskit/detail.jsp?

S.two Digital Field Recorders—First to earn the ARRIRAW T-LINK™ Certification
S.two Corporation has become the first company to earn the new ARRIRAW T-LINK™ Certification. This has been granted to the following models: TAKE2™, DFR2™, and DFR2K™ uncompressed portable recorders; i.DOCK™ and i.DOCK4™ ingest docking stations; and A.DOCK™ and A.DOCK4™ archive stations. ARRIRAW T-LINK™ is a proprietary uncompressed raw data link from ARRI that sends raw 3K resolution Bayer pattern data direct from the Arriflex D-21 film style digital camera to an attached recorder. S.two recorders receive this signal and provide real-time de-Bayer to HD-SDI conversion; the HD-SDI is then fed to monitors for viewing in EE and live modes—while recording as well as during instant playback. The Bayer data is recorded in its raw original quality in DPX frame wrappers. One of the main attractions of using the Arriflex D-21 is that it provides a correctly sized super 35mm sensor using a 4 x 3 aspect ratio; this allows the use of standard 35mm film lenses, both Spherical and Anamorphic— S.two recorders provide the correct aspect ratio on the viewing outputs including accurate high quality 2.40:1 widescreen when using anamorphic lenses. User loadable internal Look-up Tables (LUTs) also mean that on set viewing does not require the whole video village approach that many have come to think of as necessary for a digital shoot.

S.two announces new DFR2K™ Digital Film Recorder—Compact, movie-tested recorder leads the company’s expanded line-up of uncompressed film capture and workflow products

Leading the announcement of an all-new and greatly expanded range of uncompressed digital
film capture and workflow products, S.two introduced its DFR2K™ --representing the state of the
art in field portable digital capture. Using the unrivalled D.MAG™ Digital Film MAGazine
technology, the DFR2K™ records up to 72 minutes of uncompressed 444 RGB industry standard
DPX files on a single removable magazine while supporting user loaded Look-up Tables (LUT’s)
and DC operation for field use. DFR2K™ records HD, HD 444, 2K and 3K data with built-in de-
Bayering for live production of single sensor cameras; frame rates up to 60FPS uncompressed
are supported. The new DFR2K™ is compatible with all current S.two digital film workflow
products and the new for NAB 2008 A.DOCK4™ and i.DOCK4™ to provide a complete capture
solution for all digital film making needs. DFR2K™ is also the industry’s first recorder to be
ARRIRAW T-Link™ certified.

S.two delivers End-to-End 4K workflow NOW-Announces DALSA is first customer for total 4K solution S.two Corporation announced the introduction of i.DOCK4™ (4K data and HD RGB offline
production ingest dock) and A.DOCK4™ (4K data and HD RGB archive dock) to compliment the DFR 4K™ (4K Digital Field Recorder) and bringing the capability to produce a complete 4K project at the same basic budget levels previously required to produce HD444. DALSA Digital Cinema, a leader in 4K digital motion picture capture is first to order the complete tool set. Using the DFR4K™ D.MAG™ users capture uncompressed 4K images from digital cinematography cameras and elegantly move into editorial with i.DOCK4™ which allows instant ingest to platforms such as FCP—for fast dailies turnaround. i.DOCK4™ features real-time de-Bayering of any single sensor Bayer data camera—such as the DALSA Evolution and ARRI D-21. It also supports user loaded Look-up Tables (LUT’s) and provides network access to the uncompressed 4K and 3K frames plus metadata. A.DOCK4™ automatically provides fully data-based, verified, secure archive and safety copies to dual uncompressed LTO tapes and network access to the D.MAG™ data.

S.two announces Digital Studio Recorder—DSR™ answers need for fast, economical movement of uncompressed data to Post

S.two Corporation has introduced the DSR™ (Digital Studio Recorder)—an economical digital replacement for the VTR—to speed the movement of uncompressed material through the Post Production environment. The DSR™ is designed to replace expensive, service-intensive VTR’s. Offering the combination of familiar VTR functionality with the quality of uncompressed images up to 4K, the compatibility of standard DPX files, the flexibility of removable disk-based media and a low price point it responds to Post community requests. Immediate access to the material from networked workstations or through real-time video interfaces allows transfer of DPX frames with metadata, audio and timecode intact without a need to modify existing infrastructure.

ELICIT Effects opens at West Post Digital

Award-winning VFX Supervisor and Flame Artist, Les Umberger, sets up Visual Effects and finishing shop at West Post Digital in Santa Monica

Santa Monica, CA–September 26, 2007 - Les Umberger, Emmy Award winning VFX supervisor and flame artist, is the most recent addition to the West Post Digital collective. His arrival is followed with the announcement of the newly opened VFX division which Umberger helped create. Elicit Effects’ focus is on the growing commercial business at West Post Digital, and the unique workflow, high level of service, and quick turnaround demands of this creative segment.

Umberger previously held the position of Senior Flame Artist at The Syndicate and prior to that, Riot Santa Monica. Les Umberger has spent his entire career in the artist chair perfecting his craft and racking up awards with noted luminaries. Now, Umberger has capitalized on what he terms an “ideal opportunity” by plugging into West Post Digital’s highly-evolved infrastructure and talent pool.

“My experience as an artist has given me great insight into the client’s perspective; ELICIT Effects is defined by that perspective and supported by this technically brilliant facility—engineered and run by fantastic people who are extraordinarily dedicated to client service,” Umberger states.

Being housed in an established facility with the latest technology frees Umberger to fully focus on building his dream shop: “It enables me to be totally creative on any given job and cater to my client’s specific needs without having to be concerned with the technical side of things,” he says, “We just invested in a Flame 2007 system that runs on Linux hardware and is lightning-fast; which once again, allows the sessions to be based more on the creative—no sitting around waiting for renders. We also have a large effects stage which opens up a world of options to meet production needs; allowing us to shoot and therefore tailor, our own effects—and that’s priceless.”

Umberger has worked on a host of prestigious projects; garnering an Emmy, an MVPA for Best Special Effects, a Golden Flame Award, and a Telly. Some of his more recent credits include: “Reflections”-the first commercial done for Ray Ban; Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back” and Christina Aguilera’s “Hurt” music videos; the “Find Me” campaign for Sony PSP and Holiday Inn’s “Robbie” spot.

Todd Brown, WPD CEO, adds, “Having Les on board is a giant milestone for West Post Digital, as we’ve only been at our new location for one year. His creative expertise is a welcomed adjunct to our new business model and expanded services.”
